(READ THE ENGLISH VERSION DOWN BELOW)

Jeg har kun to måneder tilbage her i USA.

Godnat.

DAY 234 – A NIGHT FULL OF FRIENDS AND ENDLESS MEMORIES

Saturday, April 9, 2016

12965979_932445903542058_1302722898_n

Today, Saturday, I woke up fresh and well rested after having gone to bed already at 10! Last night I could not see properly, and my whole vision was blurred and partially away when I went to bed. I’ve never had problems with my eyes before. I don’t think there was a problem – I think more that it was a sign of stress and tiredness.

I opened my eyes, and they worked again as normal at. 7:30 and began to read the English book that I should have finished reading by Monday. I put a few chapters behind me before it was breakfast time. Byron, Chris and I ate breakfast and chatted together. Mama Molly was yesterday arrived in New York, where she was to celebrate Katie’s birthday along with Susan and Aunt Heidi.

I went back up to my room and kept reading. I snapchatted while I was reading. Lately I’ve been using especially that social media a lot. After a little more reading I talked to my mother on Skype. It was nice to talk to her. We talked about our trip to New York in exactly two months. Her and my grandpa are coming over to bring me back to Denmark – I am super excited to show my grandfather New York with my mother.

12968596_932445623542086_984532114_n

After 40 good minutes with my mother on the screen we said goodbye, and I read more of my book. I was tired of reading; so I saw Danish television on my computer instead. I saw a bit of an episode of “Krøniken,” which is a super good series with lots of Danishness. With television comes, of course, some candy. So I ate some pieces of chocolate, which I some time ago, had been sent over here by my lovely family in Denmark.

13015046_932445603542088_1262769561_n

I cut some watermelon and sat out in the garden and started reading again. The air was 28-Celsius degrees hot and my watermelon was ice cold – super delicious. While I munched melon in me and read my book, I heard some voices coming from inside the house. I remembered that Byron and Chris for the first time were Skypeing with the family’s exchange student for the next school year! I was wildly excited, so I ran into the house and up the stairs and into Byron’s office, where I found Chris and Byron talking to Carl from Sweden on the computer.

I introduced myself and we started talking about what Carl liked to do and what he looked forward to. He was nervous, but I could easily remember how nervous I was myself when I first Skyped with the family! Yesterday on Facebook, there was a memory on my wall that told me that it was exactly a year ago that I was given the Elliott family as my host family. It was therefore also about a year ago, I sat with sweat on my forehead, and met the family for the first time. I’m almost nearing full circle now. I only have two months left here in the US. Life as an exchange student has been the greatest single standing experience of my life. I am eternally grateful for everything that has happened.

Enough about me. We talked with Carl and found out that my good friends Tine, Lise and Bente’s farm I Sweden was only a 40 minute drive from Carl’s hometown Eksjö. Maybe one day I can visit him in Sweden.

We gave Carl a virtual tour of the house. I showed him my messy room, which four months from now will be his room. We took the computer and Carl into the kitchen, living room, out in the garden and in front of the house, so he could see the facade. I’m so excited on Carl’s behalf.

When Carl had no more questions, and we did not have more to tell him right now, we said goodbye.

12966333_932445616875420_388927643_n

Chris and I played a little bit of basketball after the Skype conversation, and I added Carl as a friend on Facebook and texted him that he could just write to me if he had any questions.

12966143_932445596875422_961736254_n

I went into the kitchen and let Chris play with itself. I made a brownie in the microwave – it’s just so easy, but also a super unhealthy recipe that involves 4 tablespoons of butter per. cup.

I sat on the couch and read more. From time to time I took a bite of my brownie and checked Snapchat. My lovely, Danish friend Tine told me that I only had 66 left before I would again stand in Kastrup airport.

12968665_932445643542084_1248424611_n

Byron, Chris and my plans for the evening were to go to a movie theater, where we could eat dinner during the film, which was BATMAN v SUPERMAN. I ordered an avocado veggie burger and we shared an order of popcorn. Throughout the movie, I sat with absolutely no idea of what was happening on the screen in front of me. After we had seen the movie, I was so annoyed that you can manage to make a film with a budget of millions of dollars, which does not make sense. I go over it pretty quickly, because quite frankly, the film did not deserve one thought more.

13014979_932445660208749_660995630_n

We drove home and it was already after 21:30. I worked on my blog, but I suddenly got a call from my friends Dorian and Claire. They asked if I wanted to hang out with them. I just wrote about being better at saying no here on my blog, but I was sure that a yes would give me many memories to think back on. So I said yes, and they picked me up a little after. I put a note in front of Byron’s door, which told him that I was with Dorian and Claire.

12992217_932445666875415_215733309_n

It’s some really good friends and we had fun from the moment I said “Hi guys,” and entered the car until we said goodbye. We drove to Whataburger, which is open all night. There we found a lot of other friends. There was Tara, Shawna, Steve, Ben and Marilyn. Later Erica, who’s in my math class, also came into the restaurant with a friend of hers. Erica and I talked about Swedish sheep for around 15 minutes – yes, we did.

12980622_932446043542044_1396746789_n

12988092_932445973542051_985388726_n

All my friends and I laughed and laughed and laughed. My yes to hang out with them and not sleep had turned out to be a good decision. Wow, it’s so rare that you regret a yes.

12966395_932446153542033_1114446509_n

Claire, Dorian and I said goodbye to the other friends and drove to a park where we were swinging in swings – yes, we are 18, 17 and 17 years old. When it was three in the morning Claire drove Dorian home and I was I dropped off a little after, and we said goodbye.

I closed my eyes after writing on the blog. It was four o’clock and I guess that was a little over my bedtime.

Good night.
