13046244_939538399499475_1140158380_n

Godnat.

DAY 246 – HAIRCUT by GLORIA

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

13090536_939538439499471_1658211132_n

Today, Thursday, I woke up at 8:30. It was a rather unproductive morning, I threw myself into and I did nothing but eat breakfast, watch YouTube, watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix and relax on one more day with canceled school due to the floods from Monday’s rainstorm.

Also today it rained, which was not good news for the many homeowners with water in their living rooms. I had planed to get my hair cut today, so when the weather finally dried up at 2 o’clock, I went over to the barber next to Randall’s – it’s not flooded, where I live.

I really needed to get the sides trimmed and get my ears out in the air. They had time for me right away. It was with an orange-haired, elderly woman named Gloria. She was really nice and did her best to understand what I would have done with my hair, despite her English difficulties. But Gloria knew her stuff, and I quickly felt at ease.

12166581_939538376166144_399148733_n

I was really happy with the final result, and Gloria gave me her card so I could get to her next time my hair needed a cut. There were problems with the credit card terminal, so I had to go to Randall’s and withdraw money and then return and pay for the haircut and hair wax, which I also bought.

13084148_939538392832809_1721706102_n

When I was back home, it was lunchtime. I ate blackberries, watermelon, grapes and dried berries as I watched more Gilmore Girls.

13046244_939538399499475_1140158380_n

I worked well on my blog, then I played piano for over an hour. I have really become a big fan of that instrument.

12966600_939538432832805_987391858_n

My evening plans consisted of hanging out with Ann Marie and Jessica in Jessica’s house. Then at 16:40 Ann Marie came to my house and picked me up. When we arrived at Jessica’s house, I got a tour and said hello to her mother, father and the dog. After some convincing we got a great group of friends to come and hang out with us. Ezra, Sandra, Martin, Noah, Mathew S. and Niels came and hung with us.

13081591_939538422832806_1587395440_n

We had a super great evening. We ate pizza, played Guitar Rock and Just Dance on Jessica’s Wii and there was a small jam-out session where I played piano and Jessica and Ann Marie sang. We played a lot of different songs and had so much fun with it.

I know Jessica through a lot of mutual friends. She was also in my homecoming group last fall. She is on the school dance team, and is in one of the school’s choirs. Jessica is a super singer and is really good at harmonizing.

13081927_939538442832804_2057899869_n

When it was 9:30, people were starting to go home, so I said goodbye to my wonderful friends in the Jessica household and jumped out in Claire’s car for a new lovely friend group. Dorian and Claire were going to Whataburger to meet Megan T., Michael and James McDougal. But Megan, Michael and James were at the shopping center, La Cantera. So we drove there first.

When we arrived, we said hello, and we looked at the water and the stars and talked a little before we drove to Whataburger.

13084201_939538456166136_318018507_n

At Whataburger I shared a Coke and fries with Dorian, and we put it all down and talked. Shortly after Tara and Ben happened to pass, as they sat with us. It was a good evening at Whataburger.

I had told Molly that I would be home before midnight, so I drove from Whataburger with Ben and Tara at 23:40. I was in my room at 23:50 and was ready to sleep relatively quickly.

     Ihh, I love my friends.

Good night.

FRI FRA SKOLE pga. OVERSVØMMELSE

DAG 243

Mandag den 18. april, 2016

(READ THE ENGLISH VERSION DOWN BELOW)

13022363_937346443052004_1795587332_n

DAY 243 – SCHOOL CANCELLED due to FLOODING

Monday, April 18, 2016

Today, Monday, I woke up at 06:15, when my host brother Chris came into my room and said that the school had been canceled because of flooding. We were both super excited that the normal weekend suddenly had turned into a three-day weekend. We, however, soon realized that this not only meant a day off for all students, but also meant that families here in Katy would wake up to the massive water damage and big bills. Later in the day we were told that five people had died as a result of the storm, thunder and rain.

Nothing had happened to our house and no one I knew was in trouble, so Chris and I tried to enjoy the day.

dag241thumbnail.jpg

I could not get back to sleep after being woken so instead I finished my vlog that I had shot last Saturday. I uploaded the video to YouTube, and if you have not seen it yet, you can see it HERE, or search Casper Ohlers in the YouTube search field. And subscribe for the next videos!

13020032_937346476385334_43096710_n

When it was ten, I was ready for breakfast. I had a bowl of corn flakes and dried strawberries with milk. I also drank a cup of hot cocoa because outside it was still thundering and the rain was pouring down.

Back in my room, there was enough to do, but instead I sat in my bed and ate while I watched YouTube videos.

12992888_937346463052002_1826389465_n

My mother wrote to me on Facebook and asked if I had time to Skype – yes I did. We talked about our trip to New York when her and my grandfather cross the Atlantic to get me home from America in June. I look forward to seeing them again, and to show my grandfather New York, but I’m not ready to go home yet.

After a long talk with the mother, we had a plan for what we should do and experience once in the “Big Apple.”

13022363_937346443052004_1795587332_n

I read in my book “The Help” in my bed and enjoyed peace until it was half past one, and I was hungry again. I decided to make “risengrød” – a Danish kind of rice pudding – for lunch. I had so many bags of the special rice, which my family and friends in Denmark had sent over to me. I made a good big portion and ate it with the utmost pleasure.

I again sat in my bed – this time with rice pudding in front of me. The doorbell rang at the front door. Chris had invited the whole show choir from the school home to us, because they had to sing a concert in the next few days and needed to practice. It had stopped raining several hours ago, and most roads were dry enough to drive on.

13022290_937346456385336_1226840048_n

When I was finished eating, I went downstairs where many of my friends sang in the music room. Although I’m not in that choir, I was with them in the music room. It is such an amazing group of people with many of my best friends. To name some names the group includes Nikki, Claire, Steve, Amber, Ben, Ashley, Tara and of course Chris.

The time was 16:00, and Chris and my friends left the house. Chris and I were sitting in the music room for some time and talked. I was so glad that I had gone down stairs to all my friends in the music room. Before I had done it, I thought they might not want to be disturbed. But they seemed just as happy to see me as I was to see them.

13059908_937346483052000_720275963_n

For the rest of the day I saw more YouTube videos, ate delicious homemade artichoke pizza with my host family and went grocery shopping with my host mother, Molly. We had a lot of fun while we took products off the shelves at HEB. Molly is always ready for a good laugh and is lovely to spend time with.

When I closed my eyes to sleep, it was with the thought that tomorrow morning would be a school day – but will the school reopened in the morning? Read on again tomorrow.

EN NAT FULD AF VENNER OG EVIGE MINDER

DAG 234

Lørdag den 9. april, 2016

12965979_932445903542058_1302722898_n

(READ THE ENGLISH VERSION DOWN BELOW)

12968596_932445623542086_984532114_n

Jeg har kun to måneder tilbage her i USA.

12968695_932445630208752_1247587727_n

12968665_932445643542084_1248424611_n

Godnat.

DAY 234 – A NIGHT FULL OF FRIENDS AND ENDLESS MEMORIES

Saturday, April 9, 2016

12965979_932445903542058_1302722898_n

Today, Saturday, I woke up fresh and well rested after having gone to bed already at 10! Last night I could not see properly, and my whole vision was blurred and partially away when I went to bed. I’ve never had problems with my eyes before. I don’t think there was a problem – I think more that it was a sign of stress and tiredness.

I opened my eyes, and they worked again as normal at. 7:30 and began to read the English book that I should have finished reading by Monday. I put a few chapters behind me before it was breakfast time. Byron, Chris and I ate breakfast and chatted together. Mama Molly was yesterday arrived in New York, where she was to celebrate Katie’s birthday along with Susan and Aunt Heidi.

I went back up to my room and kept reading. I snapchatted while I was reading. Lately I’ve been using especially that social media a lot. After a little more reading I talked to my mother on Skype. It was nice to talk to her. We talked about our trip to New York in exactly two months. Her and my grandpa are coming over to bring me back to Denmark – I am super excited to show my grandfather New York with my mother.

12968596_932445623542086_984532114_n

After 40 good minutes with my mother on the screen we said goodbye, and I read more of my book. I was tired of reading; so I saw Danish television on my computer instead. I saw a bit of an episode of “Krøniken,” which is a super good series with lots of Danishness. With television comes, of course, some candy. So I ate some pieces of chocolate, which I some time ago, had been sent over here by my lovely family in Denmark.

I cut some watermelon and sat out in the garden and started reading again. The air was 28-Celsius degrees hot and my watermelon was ice cold – super delicious. While I munched melon in me and read my book, I heard some voices coming from inside the house. I remembered that Byron and Chris for the first time were Skypeing with the family’s exchange student for the next school year! I was wildly excited, so I ran into the house and up the stairs and into Byron’s office, where I found Chris and Byron talking to Carl from Sweden on the computer.

I introduced myself and we started talking about what Carl liked to do and what he looked forward to. He was nervous, but I could easily remember how nervous I was myself when I first Skyped with the family! Yesterday on Facebook, there was a memory on my wall that told me that it was exactly a year ago that I was given the Elliott family as my host family. It was therefore also about a year ago, I sat with sweat on my forehead, and met the family for the first time. I’m almost nearing full circle now. I only have two months left here in the US. Life as an exchange student has been the greatest single standing experience of my life. I am eternally grateful for everything that has happened.

Enough about me. We talked with Carl and found out that my good friends Tine, Lise and Bente’s farm I Sweden was only a 40 minute drive from Carl’s hometown Eksjö. Maybe one day I can visit him in Sweden.

We gave Carl a virtual tour of the house. I showed him my messy room, which four months from now will be his room. We took the computer and Carl into the kitchen, living room, out in the garden and in front of the house, so he could see the facade. I’m so excited on Carl’s behalf.

When Carl had no more questions, and we did not have more to tell him right now, we said goodbye.

Chris and I played a little bit of basketball after the Skype conversation, and I added Carl as a friend on Facebook and texted him that he could just write to me if he had any questions.

I went into the kitchen and let Chris play with itself. I made a brownie in the microwave – it’s just so easy, but also a super unhealthy recipe that involves 4 tablespoons of butter per. cup.

I sat on the couch and read more. From time to time I took a bite of my brownie and checked Snapchat. My lovely, Danish friend Tine told me that I only had 66 left before I would again stand in Kastrup airport.

Byron, Chris and my plans for the evening were to go to a movie theater, where we could eat dinner during the film, which was BATMAN v SUPERMAN. I ordered an avocado veggie burger and we shared an order of popcorn. Throughout the movie, I sat with absolutely no idea of what was happening on the screen in front of me. After we had seen the movie, I was so annoyed that you can manage to make a film with a budget of millions of dollars, which does not make sense. I go over it pretty quickly, because quite frankly, the film did not deserve one thought more.

We drove home and it was already after 21:30. I worked on my blog, but I suddenly got a call from my friends Dorian and Claire. They asked if I wanted to hang out with them. I just wrote about being better at saying no here on my blog, but I was sure that a yes would give me many memories to think back on. So I said yes, and they picked me up a little after. I put a note in front of Byron’s door, which told him that I was with Dorian and Claire.

There we found a lot of other friends. There was Tara, Shawna, Steve, Ben and Marilyn. Later Erica, who’s in my math class, also came into the restaurant with a friend of hers. Erica and I talked about Swedish sheep for around 15 minutes – yes, we did.

All my friends and I laughed and laughed and laughed. My yes to hang out with them and not sleep had turned out to be a good decision. Wow, it’s so rare that you regret a yes.

Claire, Dorian and I said goodbye to the other friends and drove to a park where we were swinging in swings – yes, we are 18, 17 and 17 years old. When it was three in the morning Claire drove Dorian home and I was I dropped off a little after, and we said goodbye.

I closed my eyes after writing on the blog. It was four o’clock and I guess that was a little over my bedtime.

Good night.
